The ‘Spirit of Cricket’ presentation is the combination of our school teaching background, our love of the great game and our desire to see cricket played in the correct manner all around the world. We have joined forces with the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ founder; Anthony Telfer to create an engaging and humorous presentation that delivers a host of cricketing and life lessons. Covered in the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ 60-minute presentation are the following:
1. The History and Values of the Spirit of Cricket
2. The Spirit of Cricket & Our Everyday Lives
3. Playing Hard But Fair
4. Respect Your Opponents & Your Teammates
5. Respect The Umpires Decision
6. Dedication Leads To Self-Discipline & Control
7. Fair Play & Sportsmanship
8. Gratitude & Reflection
The ‘Spirit of Cricket’ presentation offers something unique in the cricketing world. It is a fun, influential, and exciting learning opportunity that brings cricketing teams together, helping them understand the differences that exist between all players and officials on the cricket field (and in life). The one-hour workshop will not only help people to understand the values required in cricket, but also how these values are transferable to our everyday lives.
The ‘Spirit of Cricket’ presentation can be delivered at a time that suits your organisation. There are no minimum or maximum numbers required; we simply need a space with suitable seating and access to a projector or smart TV. Throughout the presentation, participants will be given a book containing a series of ‘Spirit of Cricket’ based exercises. Participants work through the booklet in small groups as well as individually; with the book culminating in a reflection on cricketing and life lessons learnt throughout the presentation.
The ‘Spirit of Cricket’ organisation was founded by South Australia veteran cricketer, Anthony Telfer. Anthony has a long association with cricket; having started his cricketing journey over 50 years ago as a child growing up in Mildura. His 50 years of cricket have taken him from grassroots cricket in the bush, to premier cricket in Melbourne, and lots of places in between. Throughout his career, Anthony has observed the differing levels of sportsmanship displayed in the varying competitions; specifically noting a contrast between veteran’s cricket and all the other competitive competitions. This led Anthony to create the “Spirit of Cricket.” Working alongside cricket administrators, players, and umpires in Australia, Telfer successfully started the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ through the promotion of the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ Preamble and its values. It was first introduced at the Over 50’s Australian National Championships in Adelaide in 2022. During these championships, a ‘Spirit of Cricket’ award was presented to an individual player at the end of the tournament who exemplified the principles of fair play; and thus the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ was born. For the first time in the history of the game, players were striving to win an award that wasn’t for the best player in a game, but for displaying the best sportsmanship on and off the field.
